Computers don’t write a Substack post and worry that no one will read it.
They don’t agonize over finding an agent. They don’t experience any of the hard parts of the creative process. Computers don’t feel pressure to post work so that someone will see it. . . Or fear that no one will see it.
They don’t get the joys either. Computers have networks, not communities, friends, or families. They don’t have a supportive spouse making them dinner so they can finish a painting. As far as I know, computers don’t get the thrill of giving their art to someone special.
Human art comes from someone who has tried something, failed, learned more, tried again, almost given up, then tried again and figured things out the hard way.
Technology is cool—you can beam an image across the world in seconds—but we can’t rely on it for everything. If you want to tell a story, compose a song, or make art with any feeling behind it, that needs to come from YOU.
