Happy Primary July! ๐Ÿ’›โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’›โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

Iโ€™m as excited as a cat who just heard a can opener clamping onto a tin of tuna!

Grab all your yellows, reds, and blues and get ready to fall in love with layering and mixing!

hot sauce illustration by Beth Spencer
I drew this in last yearโ€™s #3MaterialsChallenge with a Faber Castell marker, and two colored pencils.

Here are my parameters:

๐Ÿ’› No secondary-colored materials allowed. Iโ€™ll only use orange, green, purple, etc. if Iโ€™ve mixed them from primary colors.

โค๏ธ Mix and/or layer in every drawing. Thatโ€™s where the learning happens, specifically proportions in mixing!

๐Ÿ’™ Draw from life, camera roll, or imagination. Iโ€™ve already broken that rule because I drew a fox from a wildlife field guide. Oops!

Thatโ€™s what Iโ€™m doing, but make this challenge work for you.

If you make something and think โ€œthat could use a splash of turquoise. I have the perfect crayon for that,โ€ go for it! Itโ€™s your practice.
