Fun ways to use the color black:

Capture the lushness of nature without green.

Using only red, yellow, and black paint1 (and a pencil), I made a little series of drawings at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.

Use black for line work with limited materials.

After our session with Nishant Jain, I was so inspired that I grabbed the first pencil I saw and started drawing!

Mix and layer to create your own!

I had a lovely time mixing indigo, red, and yellow ochre watercolor to create the most magical chromatic spots and details! Use red, yellow, and blue, or a pair of complementary colors and you can’t go wrong.

Thanks for reading and Happy Halloween!
