I’m inviting you to reflect on fun parts of yourself that make you unique, then infuse them into an animal character. Think of it as a self portrait gone wild!
How to participate:
Draw yourself as any animal, taking inspiration from your own life. Take a look at your favorite clothes, possessions, people you love, and routine. Do you spend a lot of time driving kids places or walking dogs? Draw your animal doing those things!

Step 1: Choose an animal.
It doesn’t have to be deep or reflective. It can be an animal you like or want to learn to draw. You can also leave it to chance — pick a number from 1 - 10, then click that number on this list!
Step 2: Practice drawing the animal.
Draw the animal from observation until you feel comfortable drawing it. Every evening, when Eric takes our dogs out, I sketch squirrels from a field guide for a few minutes. When I started drawing my clothes on them, I said “this is too fun not to share with the group!”
The key is to do it when you know you don’t have much time. Alternatively, you could set a timer. But if you’re like me and love to ignore the timer’s alarm, then I recommend sketching your animal right before you’re expected to be somewhere — on a call, meeting a friend, or feeding your cat.
I used a field guide from a used bookstore, but you can find hundreds of royalty-free animal photos on Unsplash.
For this step, I recommend using no more than 1 - 2 materials and setting an intention to just explore. No finished drawing at this stage.
Step 3: Add your personal flair.
For this step, look at the clothes in your closet, your camera roll, favorite possessions, places, and activities, then draw the animal as you!
