Great newsletter! Approaching our sketchbooks like a scientist can also remove the emotions that can prevent us from doing anything. Definitely going to experiment this weekend!
That sounds like a must-listen, Lindsey! I've found that a little distraction helps me too. I repainted all my Folktale Week art on my friend's Zoom yesterday! Having people chatting around in the background makes a sketchbook more fun sometimes.
My degree is in Microbiology, so experimenting is really my jam! 😄 Great newsletter Beth as always, I start my sketchbooks on the first page but then I keep getting back and forward on the pages *helps me not to be so precious with the sketchbook 🙃
Such a good idea not to start at the beginning of a sketchbook, I'm definitely going to try that! I've just written a newsletter about sketch booking as I think they feel quite scary to a lot of people and then you can fall into the dreaded comparison-itus which is never helpful. When I'm using them for me & finding them helpful to my painting, they're messy and incoherent, which is exactly what I need but 'failed experiments' is such a good description! Thanks for sharing.
Please sing!
I love to karaoke! Do you ever do it? What's your song?
Here's my answer to what I've been listening to:
3 Six Mafia, Britney Spears memoir, and a podcast called 90-Day Bae.
Your evolved man looks EXACTLY like my son’s best friend 🤣 And I love Three Six Mafia!
I’m trying to get Juicy J to share his writing process with us!
How cool would that be!

Yay! It is so good to take the pressure off and just enjoy making a mess. 👏😄
The time lapse video was fun! Love the tune 🎵
Yay! Thank you! The song makes me happy. It feels a little 90’s which I love! Oh are you meeting on Wednesday? I’d love to share in the weekly post!
Ahh yes! I just need to set up my invite page for it... I'll email you - THANK YOU!
Sweet! I usually set it up at the very last minute on Saturday evening. After partying all day, of course. 😜
You and your PARTY LIFESTYLE!
When watching time lapse videos of yours, I had previously thought "I really like this song!" That's so cool that your spouse wrote it!
Aw, thanks Heather! I'll pass along the message! 😊
I’m listening to Tom lake by Ann patchett right now, and I’m loving it. Also, the audiobook is read by Meryl! 🩷
I am terrible at sketchbooks - but I love your idea of experimentation, drawing something 3 times/ways, and starting in the middle of the book!

I had no idea you're into science, Teresa! That's awesome! Do you use the first page as a swatch or just draw whatever is calling you?
I just jump in the first page, without thinking too much :)
I like this. I am going to give it a try, and be a little more brave.
