Isn’t it kind of awkward to brag about yourself?

Maybe, but it’s important. We get so focused on the next goal that we can forget about the sense of pride and accomplishment we feel when we reach a milestone. Our brains need that feeling to keep us motivated and inspired. Here’s an article in Psychology Today all about this.

What counts as a milestone?

Any action that moves you closer where you want to be creatively. No achievement is too small to celebrate here. If you doodled for five minutes when you didn’t want to, that’s worth a mention in my book. 

I’ve posted some examples below, but feel free to add your own creative accomplishment that isn’t in that list!

• Completed a drawing challenge

• Overcame a struggle with a stubborn material

• Tried a a new material that’s got you excited to draw

• Laughed at a bad drawing you made

• Launched your Substack newsletter

• Made a breakthrough in drawing backgrounds

• Found a new way of drawing that you love

• Felt like you’re uncovering your illustration style

• Reached a deadline

• Started working on your portfolio

• Created a piece that you’re super proud of

• Learned a new way of working

• Loved your marks in a drawing

• Attended your first life drawing session

• Shared your work on Instagram for the first time

• Practiced drawing in a new location

• Acknowledged your inner critic and continued drawing anyway
