If you find drawing humans challenging, try to think of their features as shapes instead of naming them. That keeps the right brain in charge of drawing, without the left brain switching on overthinking mode.1

Drawn in Shivam’s Patreon Session this week.

I went to a rock show this week for some low-pressure drawing in the dark.2 I practiced that “no naming” rule and it was useful! I go over that in the video below, along with a demo where I draw a lady and her dog. Here are some tips to help you draw humans in hats:

Try starting with the:

  1. hat shape

  2. face shape

  3. hair shape

I drew people attending a Namazu show at Growler's.

Top tip:

Draw A LOT of humans in hats. There’s a whole Humans Wearing Hats Drawing session replay where we draw from stills from a silent film I found on the public domain website.3

Thanks to

Julie Rossini
for inspiring this wonderful drawing session theme!
