I loved I Know an Old Lady as a kid. Your battered version (never seen that one before) reminds me of my favourite, The Little Boy and the Big Fish by Max Velthuijs. Like Adam, I also love Busytown.
My fav is Sesame Street’s “there’s a monster at the end of this book” - where Grover talks to us and tries to convince us to not get to the end of the book by building brick walls and “roping” the pages together- all the while beeeegggging us not to go any further.
Spoiler: he was the monster at the end of the book. 😁
Loved this book! The pictures took me right back. I grew up directly behind the town library & ended spending vast amounts of time curled on its oversized green leather furniture perusing pages. The way the books smelled! My go toos were Dr.Seuss If I ran the Zoo. The Lorax .. Ferdinand the Bull❤️❤️❤️
Modern Tales and Fables by Vaclav Sivko - I was given this very psychedelic book when I was about 5 and I loved it so much - definitely a major influence!!
I loved the pictures of The Golden Treasury of Caroline and Her Friends by Pierre Probst. The stories weren't really about much and not a lot of action happens, but it's the charming pictures and antics the small animals get into that captured me.
My little people can recite The Book with No Pictures from start to finish, they love it so much! They also always laugh at Don't Push the Button and This is Not My Hat no matter how many times we read it :)
I still have a visceral memory of wanting to be in the book when I read Blueberries for Sal. The wind! The missing tooth. The strange little details that don't seem strange now but felt like part of a grown up world then.
My son is really into the Jack books by Mac Barnett right now. Super graphic and easy to follow. Wacky stories that feel like they were written by kids.
OMG, I was going to say "Blueberries for Sal" or "One Morning in Maine"... they both transported my imagination! :) The little creatures, the energy in the lines, love it all.
My classic pick is Harold and the Purple Crayon but the ones that I reference as a professional are anything by Felicita Sala, Corinna Luyken and Joey Chou.
Oh I would say that the storybook I enjoyed reading to my children the most was and still is “Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge” written by Mem Fox and illustrated by Julie Vivas. I loooove the illustrations in this book so much. They are glorious! But the main reason I love this book the most is because of the storyline. It is a tender story about a little boy who lives next door to an old folks home and his journey to help one elderly resident find her lost memory. It is tender and precious!!
I love Richard Scarry’s Busytown! It was like traveling the world and doing every job!
Ooo busytown! So much to look at! I loved that book!

I forgot about that one! SO clever. Added to cart! I have to give it to my nephews! Thanks so much for reminding me about it, Mika! 💙
Oh my, can you still buy it? I need to replace my copy because my hubby went a little bit tooo hard on the decluttering 🙈
I looooove this book: “there are cats in this book”
I’m thinking you might be aware of these books because of your love of drawing animals.
It’s such a fun book. It’s my go-to book when I used to asked to read to kids at school.

Hmmm, I sense I like books where they interact with you 😊
The illustrations in here are soooo lovely! I've never seen them before and I think my nephew would love them. Thanks for sharing! 💞
I’m glad you liked them! They have so much personality too!

Impossible to not want to see inside a cover like that! 😍
It’s magic isn’t it!

I obviously love this thread! One of my all time favorites (and I have too many! 🙃) is When Jessie Came Across the Sea by Amy Hest.
This looks beautiful and touching. I must add it to my collection. Thank you so much for sharing, Sri! 💞
Amos & Boris by William Steig. I read this a lot, even when I was "too old" for picture books. (I still prefer picture books)
I love that book and I know the words by heart! I think we made up some verses that might not be included in the book.
How fun! 😬

Somebody Loves You Mr. Hatch was an absolute fave. As an adult I've really enjoyed Felicita Sala's "What's Cooking" series.
This looks sweet! I really loved Felicita's illustrations in Big Foot and Little Foot. I must find these books! Thank you for sharing!

Aaah yes, I love these clever books! BJ Novak is so funny. Maybe they'll enjoy The Office someday!

Bread and Jam for Francis. Really any of the Francis books. I can still quote lines from them to this day.
She still makes me so happy!
