Illustration inspiration from peculiar places
Finding inspiration in peculiar places helps me feel more connected to work I create.
It’s probably not obvious that a heavy metal musician is the inspiration behind this drawing. When I stumbled across this photo of Glen Danzig wrapping a gift, I envisioned a couple of cheeky kids spying behind him. I started drawing and this whole scene unfolded.
Inspiration is everywhere!
I’ve found color palette inspiration from Peloton yoga instructors’ clothes (Kristin & Aditi are my favorites!) and story ideas from drawing people in line at the DMV.

I’m sharing what’s motivating me to keep opening my sketchbook. You can expect illustrations from my vintage picture book collection, sketches from drawing on location, and ways to draw inspiration from unusual places.
Yesterday I shared some vintage books featuring anthropomorphic characters, which we’re practicing in our next drawing session. I can’t wait!
